Understanding pain is the first step towards changing the painful experience. Knowing how the brain and nervous system operate allows us to create ways to target the mechanisms that underpin pain. Pain is an output from the brain, not muscle, tendons, ligaments or any other tissue. Appreciation of the plastic ability of the nervous system provides us with the opportunity to ‘re-wire’ it and make things feel better. During
a session we’ll assess your
structure and movement, and identify the activities that contribute to your
injury. That helps us to give you some simple post-treatment homework
that will counteract the repetitive actions that are causing you damage on a
daily basis. We’ll also explain the mechanics of your body, how muscle and its
associated soft tissue has altered your structure and generated dysfunction
and pain.
We'll also recommend a regime of self-treatment, for instance stretching or movement techniques. This is thoroughly demonstrated and we’ll either give you pictures to take home, can email specific sources of information available on the ’net, or if an article exists on our website we’ll refer you to that.
