This is what Linford Christie said about Sports Massage whilst preparing for the Sydney Olympics ...

My training regime is so intense that I wake up in pain every morning wondering how I can get through the training or racing ahead of me.

I like to have a massage the day before and sometimes on the morning of the race, I try to explain to some of the younger athletes that the pain of a massage is worth putting up with when it allows you to run and train day after day with a little less soreness in your muscles.

The type of massage I need is not one to relax away the stresses and strains of a taxing day. It is instead a hard, penetrating massage, requiring a high degree of strength and skill from the masseuse to manipulate the muscles.

Massage is very important to an athlete and when an athlete finds a good one we all try hard to keep hold of him, paying them for their services and for all the costs involved in them traveling with us on the circuit.
